Slackline Radio: Where do we find Goomson today?
Goomson: Yo peace! I go by the name Goomson 1/2 Founder of The Inner Realmz. You can find me most actively on Instagram @_goomson & @theinnerrealmz. All of our Labels music can be found Physically at theinnerrealmz.bandcamp.com & Digitally on all streaming platforms at The Inner Realmz.
Slackline Radio: What is the backstory on the name?
Goomson: I formally went as Dera when I first started pressing pads in 2010, which I preferred making slower tempo kung fu type shit. I changed my name to Goomson in 2014-2015 taking on a new and still current style after taking interest in Psilocybin Mushrooms which I then crowned myself the son of shrooms, better known as Goomson. I made this name when I was around the ages 18-21 and have since grown out of that way of living, I’ve just built a world wide fan base with it.
Slackline Radio: Tell us about your youth and how you made your connections to music and hip hop and what motivates you in your creations?
Goomson: Word, I grew up being the youngest sibling of 3 men with a 10 year age gap. You can say I found my love for Hip Hop from them as I knew nothing about how sample beats were made until I met Masta Cypher Devine in 2008. I had Tongan neighbors who had all the live instruments where they would get together every weekend with their family and play some of the illest Reggae I’ve ever heard. I would say this is the time at age 10 where I would fall in love with playing the drums all thanks to the neighbors son Ebeneezer. While acquiring my own drum kit for Christmas or my Birthday, it wasn’t going to be what I wanted out of music. A couple years later my brother bought a Roland TR-808 with thousands of preloaded sounds, it still wasn’t what I wanted out of music. It was in 2008-2010 when I stepped inside Masta Cypher Devines lab where I discovered my love for diggin crates and sampling every little thing I can from those records. From that date I haven’t stopped making beats, it was until 2019 I put out my first successful pro duplicated cassette tapes with my man Masta Cypher Devine which was titled “SP-1000”. The biggest motivator for me is seeing all the heads worldwide coppin and supporting the physical releases.
Slackline Radio: You just released Mass Collide on the Inner Realmz label that sold out the vinyl release in record time. Tell us about this release.
Goomson: Hells yea, so originally “Mass Collide” was a name I came up with in 2020. I originally was gonna drop it with beatmakers that would do beat sets at the Hip Hop shows I was doing at world renowned Stone Brewing. Unfortunately Covid wiped that shit and fortunately opened my eyes to the shady wack motha fuckas in San D EGO, California. I 100% believe the release would have done no where near as good had it dropped back then. Fast forward to September of 2024 I decided to run the name “Mass Collide” with Beatmakers Jon Deliz, Mike B, & Ripe143. It originally was decided I was just going to drop digitally on YouTube. As I began lining up the track list and adding all the post production I started to realize we have a worthy project. I reached out to the guys if they’d like to drop a 45 record which we all agreed. From there I sought out the artwork which I came across the Graffiti duo known as “Fuktory” out of Ukraine. As I started to receive previews of the art we all knew it had to drop on a 12 inch. From there I wanted the audio to sound professional as can be, so I then reached out to Dominic Thiroux after seeing him on The Dr. Greenthumb Podcast where I would hear him being shouted out by B-Real of Cypress Hill for the mixing and mastering of some of his recent releases. Although I can get busy on photoshop and am able to lay down my own templates, I wanted to lighten the workload so I hit my homie Nick Nall to lay the templates for the wax. I placed order mid-late October and received the physicals mid-late December. So the guys and I decided the first week of January would be a great time to drop which it then sold out in the first 7 days after it’s release date of January 3rd, 2025.
Slackline Radio: What other passions motivate you in this life outside of music?
Goomson: Shit yo. Hip Hop is my only passion, ima contribute to Hip Hop for the rest of my life.
Slackline Radio: What are your goals in the new year 2025?
Goomson: I’ve accomplished every goal I’ve set out for myself since beginning this journey. I need to set new goals, I’d say build the die hard fan base to sell 200 copies and to be able to work mutually with some known MCs. It seems to be all about the money these days then it is about making classics.
Slackline Radio: What other future releases should we be looking for from Goomson?
Goomson: Word yea, I know I’m working on two projects. One which I haven’t quite found a name for yet and another which is an EP for my homies over at the We Don’t Smoke The Same Podcast. I also know of my man’s Masta Cypher Devine who has a couple projects he’s working on as well as Jon Deliz and Mike B. On another note I’m always willing to drop a project for someone on the label, it just has to be legit. I’m not a fan of heads who hop to all these different labels just to get a physical put out.
Slackline Radio: We can’t leave without asking, what will be on your plate for dinner or in your hand later this evening?
Goomson: Haha word, you know? I better call up wifey and start figuring that out. We’ll probably whip up a stew or some good soup, and don’t forget the mac & cheese for my daughter!
Big ups Slackline Radio for writing up these questions and getting me involved on the platform, huge shout out to all the heads who continue supporting The Inner Realmz, shout out wifey, my daughter, Masta Cypher Devine, Jon Deliz, Mike B, Ripe143, Dom, Fucktory, Ezone, & Morning Shot Films. Peace yo, word!
