SicknessMP – Time Served

Dec 2, 2025
Featured | Reviews

For some of us, we sat around wondering, pondering where he was at. For years, Mahardika Putra Pradana aka SicknessMP turned out a collection of gems with singles on full length collabs like Boom Bap Overdose on El Jazzy’s label or his own full length releases like Namaste with his signature boom bap sound. But then, it was radio silence on social media while his catalog growth sat stagnate. It was perplexing to think that after all he had accomplished previously that he had truly given up on the pads to do something else. Did he resort to using his economics degree? Then, the truth was revealed as he kicked out Time Served. He spent two years locked down on a weed case. It is hard to believe that parts of the world still view cannabis possession or even consumption worthy of incarceration. Heck, here in Alaska where it is legal, “pot shops” are literally next door to your neighborhood. Life throws curve balls, I guess. You just have to figure out how to play catch. Let’s just be thankful he hasn’t given it up (beat making, of course)!

Fortunately on Time Served, SicknessMP has come out on the other side sounding just as good, or even better, than where he left off. According to BC, “this 12-track joint was stitched together back in early 2024, a time when freedom was still something to dream about.” In moments like these, introspection takes over. It may lead to new paths of existence. For Sickness, the time away clearly worked to a create a singular creation in his palmares. On this record there is something definitely all together different and unique taking place. Its pace is slowed, its atmospherics elevated.

The tracks feel like ballads of thankfulness or visions of clairvoyance and the titles give away secrets. Sekai (“world”) Limitz and Blue Sunset set the stage for what thoughts might have been the motivation behind such stellar works. And other times, tracks carry a rawness of sound with their tape hiss like Distopian Face that recreates the mood when this was written. Holla is more reminiscent than most of his past sounds connecting himself to the back streets of the genre. But for Blue Hill, all others must be measured against. This track breathes happiness with its expansive beat production and timeless layering of warped keys.

Raw Svara celebrates the release of Time Served as SickneesMP no doubt celebrates release from bondage. Pick up this new record so you too can join the party.
