C Y G N is back to his winning ways on the November 2023 LP, Cosmogony. Like those previous masterpieces of Quadrophonic or Goodbye Planet, Cosmogony is that warm blanket filled with his stylistic musical layering. It comes at a good time ’cause it is still cold as hell here in the dead of winter. In his incredible style, C Y G N combines unique lo-fi kicks with his signature synths that provide a sound like no other. It’s slow, hypnotic rhythms carry a pace like a horse that jogs to an ending sunset. Only this western is set in 2050 against the backdrop of a burning sun. The characteristic, ephemeral vocals are present here too, delivering always as a masterful soulful architect.
C Y G N hails from France where so many other good creations are flowing at the moment. His catalog is expansive, spanning the street rhythms of Cuba on La Habana to the danceable banger of Voyagers on Goodbye Planet. Here, Cosmogony is a late night variety ready to elevate that single malt. Its slow pace never dulls the senses. Honestly, listening to the full release in its entirety makes you wonder if you just opened up a new cognitive pathway. It might just be the best way to ensure we make peaceful contact with our celestial brethren.
