There are some things you just come to expect in life. Rivers flowing to the ocean. Sun rising in the east. Apple falling down out of the tree. Even if you come to accept the current theory that we are all living in a simulation, we still want to believe we can rely on the beautiful innerworkings of this space and time. And for years now, we have come to expect a future where Damu the Fudgemunk remains in this realm, free to pursue his artistry. Thankfully, it seems those programmers of this universe understand that there is good reason to keep us in this reality.

On the heels of Conversation Peace, Peace of Action is the second full installment of Damu”s partnership with London’s Def Pressé and KPM‘s back catalogue. KPM has a storied history of producing music that apparently almost goes back two centuries? But, it is what they did in the last 60 years that makes them truly iconic in pop culture. You probably didn’t realize it at the time when you were zoning out on People’s Court, but KLM has been associated with many notable themes for TV, movies, and sports that we all come to recognize today. They are likely responsible for laying down your memories. There is no doubt their work can help you recall that sense of nostalgia with full dopamine induced smiles. On Peace of Action, Damu explores their collection with perfection creating a mesmerizing work. Others like Blockhead, Stro Elliot, and Tensei have also been so lucky to do their own digging for gold in the KPM crates of library music for the Def Pressé label.

Peace of Action strikes it rich with those old sounds, recreating beautiful jazz melodies or a suspenseful sci-fi while all the time without vocals. Apparently, it took seven years for Damu to get us back to the headspace of a true instrumental album from its roots. If we look back to the visionary Vignettes of 2017, it gave us a grand sense of the creation. Like Dark Side of the Moon, that album was truly meant to be heard from start to finish. And Peace of Action comes across similarly. It has classic Damu elements as he lays down such characteristic hip-hop beats and scratches on some of these tracks. But there is just another level of production here on Peace of Action for this Washington D.C. producer. It feels theatrical at times as if there is some subdued plot line hidden beneath the multiple layers.

This is no Mandela Effect. This record really did happen and we can all be thankful we took the blue pill to experience it.
